Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a clear aligner system designed to straighten and align teeth faster than traditional metal braces. In addition to having an invisible appearance, Invisalign is also considered more comfortable.

After an initial consult with Dr. Rizvi, she fits you for your Invisalign aligners. Each week, you change the aligner you’re wearing, and the new aligner applies slight pressure to your teeth, moving them slowly into place.

If you’re interested in straightening your teeth but don’t like the idea of braces, talk to Dr. Rizvi about your options.

How is Invisalign different from traditional braces?

Invisalign is different from traditional metal braces in many ways. First and foremost, Invisalign uses clear, comfortable aligners made from SmartTrack® material that easily fits your teeth, making it hassle-free to put in and take out. These aligners are also removable, so unlike traditional braces, Invisalign aligners can be removed when you eat and when you brush and floss your teeth.

Invisalign also has a minimal impact on your daily life. The aligners are comfortable and do not cause the same level of discomfort as traditional braces. And since Dr. Rizvi recommends wearing your Invisalign aligners for 20-22 hours a day, you can remove them when you eat (plus, there are no limits on what you can eat).

An added benefit for teens and young adults is that Invisalign can be used in athletics. Because they’re soft and comfortable, there’s no risk of mouth injury from the sharp brackets used in traditional, metal braces.

How do you know if Invisalign is right for you?

Invisalign is designed for adult men and women, as well as teenagers. Although it may not be suitable for everybody, it can help many patients. These aligners are used with both mild and complex cases and are especially helpful with the following issues:

  • Gapped teeth
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Open bite and crossbite
  • Overly crowded teeth

If you suffer from any of these dental issues and think Invisalign can help improve your smile, contact Dr. Rizvi. She offers free Invisalign consultations to ensure this is the right option.
